Big Series

This is it.  The biggest series in the NL East.  Mets vs Phils.  New York vs Philadelphia.  The Mets are three games up on the Phils.  With this three game series, the Phils could either even it up, with a sweep, or fall to six back.  Six back?  Turn out the lights baby, the party is over.

The Mets are one of the hottest teams in baseball right now, winning 17 out of their last 22 games.  They have their closer and their number three pitcher coming back.  Two of their three starting OFs are now playing regularly and Evens/Murphy/Tatis trio has more than made up for the loss of Alou.
Now the Mets collapsed last year and lost a huge lead to the Phils.  This year will be a bit different…hopefully.

What are you thinking? After last season you'd dare to anger the gods of baseball fate yet again? I believe you were saying "close the books" last season and then look what happened.

I'm not saying that this year will be a repeat performance because this is far from last year's team. Like it or not the personality and mentality that Aaron Rowand brought to the clubhouse on a daily basis has been desperately missed. But as of late the Phightins have been stepping up. (Except for two games against the streaking Nats)

The Phils had a great series against the Cubbies and have helped them toward a recent skid.

After game one, Myers was lights out by the way, the ball goes to Moyer and then Hamels in a day-night double dip on Sunday. Will Moyer be able to redeem himself after a rough start against the Mets only a few weeks back? Will Hamels continue to stay strong and lead this team back to the playoffs?

One thing appears to be true…these two teams will need all 162 games to finsih off the season. What I'd really like to see is both teams make it to the post-season, and with an upcoming series versus the Brewers that might just be a possibility.

The Brewers are definitely sliding. The Mets just swept them this past series. The only downside to the Mets Phils rivalry is it ends this weekend because they dont' play each other again this season. The Rays and Sox play each other six more times.

I will say this. Carlos Delgado could be your NL MVP this season. He single-handedly beat the Phillies last night, sort of. He has had a monster few months and the homeruns he hit last night were mammoth shots.

But here's to both teams making the post season.
