Batman 3

I have heard that the third Batman will be coming out sometime in 2011 or 2012.  Christopher Nolan has signed a deal with Warner Bros. to finance his newest movie, out in 2010.  As a result of that move, Nolan has agreed to direct another Batman film.

I know we did this before but with all of our new readers, we should post it again.  Which villains would you like to see go against the Bat in the next movie.

Ninja Gaiden for the DS

ninja-gaiden-dragon-sword-small

Due to the absence of a PS3 at my house (it’s not really a home without a nice, warm PS3 for the family to gather around), I picked up my son’s copy of Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword for the DS.  I thoroughly enjoyed the game’s decent graphics, innovative game play (using a stylus to move and attack), and engaging, if a bit short, storyline.  I played it through with little trouble on the “Normal” mode (the only one available at first) and finished the game within a week or so.

Upon completion of the game, I unlocked some added features, one of them being the “Head Ninja” difficulty mode.  This turned out to be an appropriate description of the difficulty, as this level of play sucks beyond all reason, almost at the expense of any enjoyment of the game.  To add to the sheer joy, you’re forced to play with the stylus and touchscreen.  That which seemed to work so well on “Normal” mode doesn’t seem quite so swell now.  If your touchscreen is scrached to the texture of fine sandpaper as mine is, it really screws with the in-game reaction of your little ninja.  You find your little ninja doing some rather un-ninja-like things, like walking into enemy attacks 0r opting not to attack at all, preferring to just do a little dance in place while enemies swarm from all directions.

I guess the reason for my rant is my exasperation over trying to unlock the hidden character, the female ninja-in-training.  You play the first level as “princess throwing star”, fight and lose to the first boss (a rather large fire breathing dragon), and that sets the rest of the plot in motion.  Now if you actually succeed in beating this first boss, you unlock this little ninja princess as a playable character with her own storyline.  The problem…it is even more difficult than playing in “suck ninja” mode.  I’ve worn the dragon down to about 1/2 it’s HP, but if you even bump into the thing while dogding, your ninja will register as a block abut half the time and takes your own life down 1/2 way.  If Dino gets hold of you even once, you’re done.  Worse, just getting to this boss requires a 5-10 minute fight with the usual endless drone of enemies.  They won’t kill you (usually), but will ensure that you don’t make it to the boss at full capacity.

Anybody else ready to throw their respective DS-es over this unholy and addictive game?

King books

While reading the Stand for the first time, I have come to the conclusion that it is possibly Stephen King’s best work.  I have decided to rank the top ten King books in order of greatness.

10.  Skeleton Crew

9.  The Bachman Books

8.  Misery

7.  Christine

6.  Pet Sematary

5.  Different Seasons

4.  Needful Things

3.  It

2.  The Gunslinger

1.  The Stand

While I am still about 200 pages away from finishing the Stand, it is between that and the Dark Tower series for greatest Stephen King books.  Now I did leave out a few fan favorites like Salem’s Lot and The Shining because I didn’t care for either of them.  Let me know what you think.

Friday the 13th review

Ok, I went into this movie with high expectations so when I am reviewing that, I have to remember that I built this movie up quite a bit.  My brothers seemed to enjoy it more than I did but it was entertaining.

First off, if you think this will reinvent the Friday the 13th series, you will be disappointed.  To me, it seemed just like another addition to the series and they should have called it Friday the 13th Part 12(or whatever they were on).  While I enjoyed that they mixed the first three movies into one, I found it kind of slow.  I really didn’t care for the young actors, even though they were all very pretty people.  It had the typical Friday requirements: sex, booze, drugs, and death.  It just didn’t stick out for me in any way.

If I were to rank the slasher reboots, it would be

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Friday the 13th

Halloween: Rob Zombie edition

While Halloween sucked big time, Friday just kinda floated along.  Very dark and hard to watch at times.  Some very original deaths.  While Myers was a faceless monster, Jason seemed quite intelligent.  One concern I had was that even though he was supposed to be slow, he sure did have intricate tunnels throughout Crystal Lake (and I won’t even get into the amazing lighting system he had around his place).  With Leatherface, my only issue was that in the original TCM, Leatherface was mentally retarded and you felt bad for him (slightly).  I wish they would have kept that for this one as well.

So my final analysis…rent this one.  Seeing it on the big screen really doesn’t do much.  The Transformer trailer, however, was amazing at the theater.

My Name is Bruce

If you liked Army of Darkness and understand the lore, then I have one word when describing “My Name is Bruce”:

          GROOVY

This is a must see movie for any Bruce Campbell fan.  You can’t watch it with someone who isn’t a fan of his or they will ruin the experience (no I am not speaking from experience but it would be like me watching Mama Mia with someone who likes it).  You need to view it with fans of the Evil Dead series or find a quiet place in the house and enjoy it.

Tonight my brothers and I are going see Friday the 13th.  We will tell you what we thought tomorrow.

Online Comic Series

I know Alan and I have bantered back and forth about this. Would any of our 4 or 5 loyal readers be interested in one if we decided to do a weekly (maybe too ambitious) or so serial? Please let us know.

I know Alan has a few good ideas (my personal favorite is Dad and Baby: Zombie Hunters) and I’ve got one or two I’ve been kicking around for a few years.

TROTF

So recently there were images of both the Fallen and Devastator released. Check the following link to see them.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=52807

I was wondering what some of you would think since this is drastically different from the traditional Devastator that we all have come to know and love.

I am not disappointed with what Bay has come up with however. In the first Transformers movie any part that existed on the vehicle also existed in the robot mode. It is apparent that he is staying with this theme for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. You can clearly see all the functional parts of each vehicle.

What I like best is the fact that Devastator looks more monster-like than just another giant robot. He looks menacing and from the trailer quite impressive.

Again…I invite your thoughts.

Who you Gonna Call?

…Gamestop as soon as I can afford a PS3.  I can’t let my brothers strap on proton packs and go ghost hunting without me.  And don’t worry, we won’t cross the streams, just our fingers in the hopes that this game finally gets to see the light of day.  Lets kick the tires and light the fires.

Mnah Mnah

Unlike my brothers, I don’t have anything heady or useful to say today.  I did find this video on the web however.  It doesn’t take much to make my day.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wMHcpMmV9g
