The New York Mess
At this point, I no longer know what to say or how to say it. This season has been disasterous and there has never been a team with so many injuries in recent memory. I will give a list of them in order of position…could we make an all-star team?
1st: Carlos Delgado
2nd: Alex Cora
3rd: David Wright
SS: Jose Reyes
OF: Fernando Martinez
OF: Carlos Beltran
OF: Gary Sheffield
SP: Johan Santana
SP: John Maine
SP: Jon Niese
SP: Fernando Nieve
RP: JJ Putz
Now looking at this team and seeing what talent the Mets have been without, it isn’t surprising that they are are not contending. I am actually watching a AAA team without the AAA All-Stars on it. The Mets did get to trade Wagner for financial relief but unless these guys get healthy for next season, the Mets could endure the same. Delgado is a free agent but are there any real good options for first? Will Reyes come back to form? Will Santana, Niese, and Maine be ready and healthy for spring training?
Oh I forgot, the Wilpons lost close to 750 million dollars in the Madoff Ponzi scheme so I have a feeling someone is cutting payroll. Maybe it is time for him to see the Mets and move on. Get a real owner there who isn’t scared of firing an inept GM and a worthless manager.
