Disney buys Marvel

800px-Marvel-character-composit-thumb-570x327

This just in….Disney purchased Marvel comics for four billion dollars.  That is right, it is time we see the ultimate team of Mickey Mouse and Captain America?  Belle going after a new Beast?  This is just too much to wrap my head around at this time.  The possibilities seem endless.  I do have two questions:

1.  Does this mean Disney owns the rights to the movies as well?  I know Marvel created their own company to bring their characters to life.

2.  What happens to Universal Studios and the whole section of Marvel characters?  Would they dare shut down the Spiderman ride?

Ok, Universal the ball is in your court.  Buy DC, make a whole virtual ride using Batman villains, and push forward.  Also the Harry Potter theme park section will be out next fall.

Here is the actual article

I believe that Disney has stated that all pre-existing contracts will stay as is for the time being. Which means X-men will stay with FOX and Spiderman with Sony. There is nothing stated for the long-term plan but only immediate. All the movies that were supposed to come out are going to be released on time. I think this allows for a bigger financial push. Who knows what this could mean otherwise? Maybe a combination of Kingdom Hearts and Marvel?

I have heard that as long as they continue off the following contracts, that Sony will have rights to Spiderman (4,5,6). I know Fantastic Four is looking to reboot so I think that would still belong to Fox.

But with Fantastic 4 they aren't sure if they're "rebooting" by keeping any of the previous actors, directors, producers, etc. Not sure how that'd be a reboot.
