I know I shouldn’t get my hopes up, but this looks like it might make up for that last movie. You know, the one that transformed from a summer blockbuster into a multi-million dollar steaming turd right in front of our eyes.
You’ve got Autobots, Decepticons, planetary conquest, Laserbeak (jury’s still out on whether or not that’s a good thing), Shockwave (most definitely a good thing), and most importantly what appears to be a PLOT! What more can you ask for? How about not having to see Michael Bay soil himself onscreen after paying $25 for tickets for Boy and myself? Not too much to ask, right?
I’d like to revive what I think is arguably one of Alan’s best ideas, the 5 and 5. I thought of this on the drive to work this morning. What about the best and worst scenes from some of my favorite movies? So I put together the list of my favorite, thinking up most of them right on the spot (wasn’t too difficult). I’ve also got some of the worst already planned. I’ll post that later today or this weekend as time permits.
What are your favorites? Feel free to share your favorite, berate my choices, whatever. Here are mine.
1. Spider-Man 2: The Train Scene. When the crowd is looking over his body and you hear the “he’s just a kid”, then the little boy hands him the mask, it’s just pure power. It’s also one of my all-time favorite movies, so that helps.
2. The Crow: The Shootout Scene. How much ass did this kick. Still a powerful movie 2 decades later. The fact that the studio is “rebooting” this film doesn’t settle well with me, kids.
3. The Empire Strikes Back: I am your Father. Okay, make fun of this one as much as you want. At the time, this scene blew people out of their seats in theaters around the world. I had heard about the Easter Egg surprise ending from all my friends (it took me 2 months to see it in the theater, I was sick when my brothers and sister went to see it) and it still worked. The baddest ass in the known universe, who killed your mentor and your dad and has been hunting you and your friends between movies turns out to be your DAD? Just icing on the best cake in the entire 6 movie lot.
4. 300: Final Battle. What can you say about this one? Just stunning. Enjoy

5. The Dark Knight: Pencil Trick. This scene immediately sold Heath Ledger as the Clown Prince of Crime for me. Perfection. My favorite line isn’t the pencil trick though. It’s “I’m not crazy…..I’m notttt”.
6. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers: Dawn at Helm’s Deep. (bonus scene) One of the most epic battles in all of cinema. Almost made the top 5 for me, but I had to put The Crow in there for nostalgic purposes.
Thanks as always to Comingsoon.net for posting this up for us.
I’m still torn. As a huge X-junkie, I was disappointed with the X-movies overall. The second film was good, but the first one changed the mythology too much for me, and the third? Let’s not even talk about that steaming pantload.
Laura Hudson of Comics Alliance did a great piece on a new Peanuts graphic novel that is being published. You can read the article and see a few more excerpts by following the link. I posted up my favorite page below. As you can see, the new artists and writers capture the spirit of the Peanuts. From what was shown in the article, I think it’s funnier than the last few years of Shultz’s work.
And this one also looks much better than the first sneak peek trailer that was released a few weeks ago…or was it a few months ago? I’ve lost track. Anyway, give it a watch. Especially you Keith and Dave. Thanks to Comics Alliance for posting this up.
I’d like to thank Jonathan over at Omnicomic for posting this up. Not a trailer so much as one scene showing his unceremonious arrival on Earth. You can follow the link below to jump over to Omnicomic to see the clip or view it below. He and his co-authors have a great site. Give them a look when you get a chance. Thanks Jonathan.
I’d like to see more of a trailer than this, as I’d like to determine whether or not it’s worth going to the theater to see or whether it’s an “avoid even for $1 at the Redbox” special.
Anybody who watched Stargate Atlantis (all 10 of us) know Jason Momoa (the new Conan stepping in to fill Arnold’s fur banana hammock for this film) can fight, has enough weapons training to look like he knows what he’s doing, and has a bit of a bad-ass presence on screen. I’m willing to give him a shot, but as I said, I’d like to see more. From the on-set images I’ve seen, he definitely looks more like the Conan from the old books I used to see at the library when I was a kid.
