Batman Arkham City Trailer 2: Diagnosis Delicious

This is a great trailer.  This game is going to be…wait for it…EPIC!

Dyaln Dog: Dead of Night Movie Trailer

Brandon Routh (Superman from Superman Returns and guest appearances in TV’s Chuck and as one of the evil exes in Scott Pilgrim vs the World) and and Sam Huntington (Josh the werewolf from the American version of Being Human and Jimmy Olsen in Superman Returns) team up for this comedy/horror based on a Dark Horse Comics title of the same name. Looks entertaining enough. I’m pulling for Routh as I feel he got the bulk of the blame for Superman Returns being the bomb it was and not Bryan Singer, who I think should get his director card revoked. Take a look and tell us what you think.

New THOR Movie Poster

Here’s the new THOR Movie Poster, just released today.

Thanks to SuperheroHype.com for posting this up for us.

New Image of the Red Skull from Captain America: The First Avenger

I really can’t wait to see this now. Shown is Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt, a.k.a. the Red Skull in full costume. I think the studio did a fantastic job with it.

New Anime X-Men Show?

Found this while out surfing around this morning. The X-Men and anime. Two of my favorite things. Throw in a few cars that transform into robots and I’m good for the rest of the year.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: My First Impression

I waited all week, second-guessing myself, changing my mind, trying to talk myself into saving my Gamestop GCs for something else.  Last night I finally broke down and swung by my favorite video game mecca on the way to pick up Zoe from dance class.  I am now the proud owner of one Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

My first reaction?  It ain’t the Street Fighter I grew up on.  No more 3 punch button/3 kick button pad anymore.  That’s the hardest thing to overcome, having to remap your idea of combat.  Once you start to learn the characters though, the fun really begins.  I was initially disappointed to hear that the roster had been significantly reduced compared to the previous incarnations of this game.  Playing it, I can see why.  The characters are fairly well-balanced with each other with very few duplicate move, style, or character mapping.  There are more than enough characters to choose from to fit your style of play.

I played for about 30-40 minutes yesterday and one match today.  It only took about 20 minutes to get used to the game and get some combo flow going.  Here are some of my early favorites so far:

Arthur from Ghouls & Ghosts:  He’s not much in close combat, but he’s got ranged attacks coming out his boxer-shorts clad buttocks.  With small variations to 2 or 3 different patterns, you can fling just about every weapon from Ghouls & Ghosts and take out most of your opponents with ease.

Deadpool:  He’s extremely quick with a great balance of ranged attacks and close combat moves.  He doesn’t pack as much of a punch as others, but he really doesn’t have to as he hits about 4 times faster than anyone else I used.  He also taunts the player almost as much as the opponents, yelling out “Dude, you suck” at inopportune moments, or “this is my taunt” when you hit the select button to taunt your opponent.  His scream of defeat as he slowly drops to the ground?  “You hit the wrong button!”

She Hulk:  She plays like a wrestler, but she doesn’t have all the throws Zangief had.  Still, she’s fun to use, she’s green, and she’s clothed so I don’t feel like a loser using her while the kids are around(some of the female characters in this game may as well not be dressed at all considering how little they’re wearing).  Whoever provided her voice fits her perfectly.

Zero:  Hands-down my favorite character, and not just because Nick dressed like him for 1/3 of his childhood.  He’s quick, by far the easiest character to use and get the hang of, and his moves have some decent range thanks to that energy sword of his.  I’d read on another review that he was the worst character in the game.  I disagree and strongly recommend adding him to your roster.

Here are some of the other characters I used briefly and would like to play with some more.  Wolverine is just fun to slash around with, but I’d hoped his standard attack button moves were a bit …. slashier?  I guess I just expected more from a guy who’s the best at what he does.

Amaterasu from Okami is a fun and quirky niche character.  She’s a bit difficult to use, but has some decent special attacks.

Storm is great in a pinch, but her special attacks are very reliant on her opponent’s position on the screen.  She’s hard to use but her attacks pack a punch.

The Hulk is by far the heaviest hitter in the game, but his range sucks.  He’s got some ranged attacks, but they seem much easier for the computer opponents to avoid.  Fighting against him, I seem to be too slow to evade, even when he telegraphs the move ahead of time.  Maybe I’m just rusty.

I’d really like to play through with Captain America and Thor.  Not sure if it’s just the movie hype or not, but I’ll write up a review later this month.

Talia al Ghul to appear in The Dark Knight Rises?

Marion Cotillard, another actor from the Nolan stables is rumored to have signed on to star in Christopher Nolan’s final installment in the Batman series, The Dark Knight Rises.  Will we get to see Talia al Ghul in the film?

I’m going to throw my guess out that Talia will make an appearance, maybe even using the actor’s current pregnanacy as a plot device (Damian Wayne?).  I think Ra’s will also appear, maybe in a semi-vegitative state but still alive and seemingly cheating death as he does using the Lazarus Pit in the comics.

I don’t think Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play Robin, Nightwing, or Azrael.  My guess is he’ll make a cameo as one of the rogues, either the Riddler or as the Joker (look at that picture and tell me he couldn’t pull off Heath’s Mr. J).  Either role is good for me.  I’d be just as happy if Nolan used some of that rumored unused footage of Heath filmed in Arkham because now that the Joker has been introduced, an appearance in this movie, even for a few minutes of screen time, would be powerful.

Any thoughts?  Those are mine, I welcome yours.

X-Men: First Class Trailer is now Online…..and it Looks Halfway Decent

I hate to eat my words, but I’m not grabbing a plate and napkin just yet.   I remember the trailer for X3 looking pretty sweet.  Hell, they even threw in a Fastball Special (Colossus throwing Wolverine) for us X-Fanboys.  Then we all went to see it in the theater and taking a cue from Mystique, Fox morphed the entire film into one gigantic steaming pile of X-gene infused poo.

I know the continuity is so screwed up compared to the comic (which is saying a lot considering how badly Marvel has screwed with its own continuity over the decades) but this looks better than I thought it would.  I won’t hold my breath, but I’m willing to give it a shot.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: 2/15/11

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is due to be released on 2/15/11 and I’ll be putting in my V-Day request with Mrs. D. tonight.

Check out the video below.  If this doesn’t make you want to grab a copy for yourself, I don’t know what will.

According to the official website, the roster as of today is:  (click to enlarge)

Captain America and Transformers: Dark of the Moon Super Bowl Spots

With my Patriots and Keith’s (and my wife’s) Vikings not playing tonight, I was watching the game mostly for the commercials.  Here are the two spots I was waiting to see, Captain America:  The First Avenger, and our first decent look at Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

What did you think of the game?  The commercials?  The movie trailers?  Let us know.
