The Avengers Trailer!!!!

I apologize for the lack of content lately. We’ve all been out of pocket with family-related stuff (nothing bad, just the usual) but I had to post this up. It’s just too good to ignore.

The Avengers: ComicCon Character Artwork

Thanks to SuperheroHype.com for sharing these great images of three of the Avengers.  I’m sure more are to come and I’ll post them up as they’re made available.

Click on the thumbnails below to see the full-sized images.

I suppose I should line them up in order too.  I’ll do that once they’re all released.

Captain America: The First Avenger….finally the full trailer

Thanks yet again to Comingsoon.net for sharing the trailer with us. It’s beyond amazing and I can’t wait to see this film in theaters. I’ve also posted up the new movie poster which is equally snazzy.

Captain America: The First Avenger…and Finally the First Official Trailer

Here it is kids. Just watched it and I’m ready to see more. Make mine Marvel….and Captain America.

New Image of the Red Skull from Captain America: The First Avenger

I really can’t wait to see this now. Shown is Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt, a.k.a. the Red Skull in full costume. I think the studio did a fantastic job with it.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: My First Impression

I waited all week, second-guessing myself, changing my mind, trying to talk myself into saving my Gamestop GCs for something else.  Last night I finally broke down and swung by my favorite video game mecca on the way to pick up Zoe from dance class.  I am now the proud owner of one Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

My first reaction?  It ain’t the Street Fighter I grew up on.  No more 3 punch button/3 kick button pad anymore.  That’s the hardest thing to overcome, having to remap your idea of combat.  Once you start to learn the characters though, the fun really begins.  I was initially disappointed to hear that the roster had been significantly reduced compared to the previous incarnations of this game.  Playing it, I can see why.  The characters are fairly well-balanced with each other with very few duplicate move, style, or character mapping.  There are more than enough characters to choose from to fit your style of play.

I played for about 30-40 minutes yesterday and one match today.  It only took about 20 minutes to get used to the game and get some combo flow going.  Here are some of my early favorites so far:

Arthur from Ghouls & Ghosts:  He’s not much in close combat, but he’s got ranged attacks coming out his boxer-shorts clad buttocks.  With small variations to 2 or 3 different patterns, you can fling just about every weapon from Ghouls & Ghosts and take out most of your opponents with ease.

Deadpool:  He’s extremely quick with a great balance of ranged attacks and close combat moves.  He doesn’t pack as much of a punch as others, but he really doesn’t have to as he hits about 4 times faster than anyone else I used.  He also taunts the player almost as much as the opponents, yelling out “Dude, you suck” at inopportune moments, or “this is my taunt” when you hit the select button to taunt your opponent.  His scream of defeat as he slowly drops to the ground?  “You hit the wrong button!”

She Hulk:  She plays like a wrestler, but she doesn’t have all the throws Zangief had.  Still, she’s fun to use, she’s green, and she’s clothed so I don’t feel like a loser using her while the kids are around(some of the female characters in this game may as well not be dressed at all considering how little they’re wearing).  Whoever provided her voice fits her perfectly.

Zero:  Hands-down my favorite character, and not just because Nick dressed like him for 1/3 of his childhood.  He’s quick, by far the easiest character to use and get the hang of, and his moves have some decent range thanks to that energy sword of his.  I’d read on another review that he was the worst character in the game.  I disagree and strongly recommend adding him to your roster.

Here are some of the other characters I used briefly and would like to play with some more.  Wolverine is just fun to slash around with, but I’d hoped his standard attack button moves were a bit …. slashier?  I guess I just expected more from a guy who’s the best at what he does.

Amaterasu from Okami is a fun and quirky niche character.  She’s a bit difficult to use, but has some decent special attacks.

Storm is great in a pinch, but her special attacks are very reliant on her opponent’s position on the screen.  She’s hard to use but her attacks pack a punch.

The Hulk is by far the heaviest hitter in the game, but his range sucks.  He’s got some ranged attacks, but they seem much easier for the computer opponents to avoid.  Fighting against him, I seem to be too slow to evade, even when he telegraphs the move ahead of time.  Maybe I’m just rusty.

I’d really like to play through with Captain America and Thor.  Not sure if it’s just the movie hype or not, but I’ll write up a review later this month.

Captain America and Transformers: Dark of the Moon Super Bowl Spots

With my Patriots and Keith’s (and my wife’s) Vikings not playing tonight, I was watching the game mostly for the commercials.  Here are the two spots I was waiting to see, Captain America:  The First Avenger, and our first decent look at Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

What did you think of the game?  The commercials?  The movie trailers?  Let us know.

Here is the first poster for Captain America:  First Avenger.  All I can say is amazing.

Captain America : The First Avenger Movie Poster, Legit or More Fan Fabrication?

A few months ago I found and was ready to post a Captain America trailer, but thought I’d do a bit of research first.  I’m glad I did because the video was a hoax.  A pretty good one, but a hoax nonetheless.  The artist who created it even created an alternate video, and indicated that it was a bootleg of a sneak peek shown at ComicCon.  He played his original creation on either his monitor or his HD TV and recorded it on his camera phone to give it that blurry, shaky, standing in a crowd of fanboys look.  He even piped in cheers from the crowd.  I was impressed as he fit the “pops” in the cheering with certain character appearances on the screen:  Nick Fury, Black Widow, Iron Man, the Hulk.

The give-aways were the shots that were clearly from other movies, in particular images of  Hugo Weaving in 1800′s period dress from the Wolf Man and flashes of Karl Ruprecht Kroenen (the masked, blade wielding, Snake Eyes-looking Nazi) from Hellboy.

Now that I’ve piqued your interest, I suppose I should post the video for your review.  Click on the image of the shield to link to the video (scroll down the page to find it).

Here’s the reason for this post.   I was again searching for some little tidbit the studio might have released this week and found nothing.  Well, almost nothing.  On one website, I found this image, a movie poster for the upcoming Captain America, the First Avenger.  I’m question it’s legitimacy as it looks strikingly similar in style to the fan-made Thor poster Dan was kind enough to share with us a few months ago (jump to It’s a Dan’s World here).  Whether it’s legitimate or not, it’s fantastic and I love it.  Enjoy.

Comic-Con Promo Posters for Thor and Captain America

Yahoo Movies just posted up the two promotional posters for the new Marvel movies on deck, Thor and Captain America.  Holy $%#@ doesn’t begin to describe them.   Take a look.  Thanks to Yahoo movies and Comingsoon.net for the tip.

Click on the pictures below for full size images.

….so come on Marvel, where’s the promo poster for The Avengers?
