The Avengers Trailer!!!!

I apologize for the lack of content lately. We’ve all been out of pocket with family-related stuff (nothing bad, just the usual) but I had to post this up. It’s just too good to ignore.

The Avengers: ComicCon Character Artwork

Thanks to SuperheroHype.com for sharing these great images of three of the Avengers.  I’m sure more are to come and I’ll post them up as they’re made available.

Click on the thumbnails below to see the full-sized images.

I suppose I should line them up in order too.  I’ll do that once they’re all released.

Marvel Spoofs with “Little Thor” Commercial

Marvel, you did good. My vote still goes with Little Vader, but this one is a close second.

New Thor Clip (Courtesy of Omnicomic)

I’d like to thank Jonathan over at Omnicomic for posting this up. Not a trailer so much as one scene showing his unceremonious arrival on Earth. You can follow the link below to jump over to Omnicomic to see the clip or view it below. He and his co-authors have a great site. Give them a look when you get a chance. Thanks Jonathan.

New THOR Movie Poster

Here’s the new THOR Movie Poster, just released today.

Thanks to SuperheroHype.com for posting this up for us.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: My First Impression

I waited all week, second-guessing myself, changing my mind, trying to talk myself into saving my Gamestop GCs for something else.  Last night I finally broke down and swung by my favorite video game mecca on the way to pick up Zoe from dance class.  I am now the proud owner of one Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

My first reaction?  It ain’t the Street Fighter I grew up on.  No more 3 punch button/3 kick button pad anymore.  That’s the hardest thing to overcome, having to remap your idea of combat.  Once you start to learn the characters though, the fun really begins.  I was initially disappointed to hear that the roster had been significantly reduced compared to the previous incarnations of this game.  Playing it, I can see why.  The characters are fairly well-balanced with each other with very few duplicate move, style, or character mapping.  There are more than enough characters to choose from to fit your style of play.

I played for about 30-40 minutes yesterday and one match today.  It only took about 20 minutes to get used to the game and get some combo flow going.  Here are some of my early favorites so far:

Arthur from Ghouls & Ghosts:  He’s not much in close combat, but he’s got ranged attacks coming out his boxer-shorts clad buttocks.  With small variations to 2 or 3 different patterns, you can fling just about every weapon from Ghouls & Ghosts and take out most of your opponents with ease.

Deadpool:  He’s extremely quick with a great balance of ranged attacks and close combat moves.  He doesn’t pack as much of a punch as others, but he really doesn’t have to as he hits about 4 times faster than anyone else I used.  He also taunts the player almost as much as the opponents, yelling out “Dude, you suck” at inopportune moments, or “this is my taunt” when you hit the select button to taunt your opponent.  His scream of defeat as he slowly drops to the ground?  “You hit the wrong button!”

She Hulk:  She plays like a wrestler, but she doesn’t have all the throws Zangief had.  Still, she’s fun to use, she’s green, and she’s clothed so I don’t feel like a loser using her while the kids are around(some of the female characters in this game may as well not be dressed at all considering how little they’re wearing).  Whoever provided her voice fits her perfectly.

Zero:  Hands-down my favorite character, and not just because Nick dressed like him for 1/3 of his childhood.  He’s quick, by far the easiest character to use and get the hang of, and his moves have some decent range thanks to that energy sword of his.  I’d read on another review that he was the worst character in the game.  I disagree and strongly recommend adding him to your roster.

Here are some of the other characters I used briefly and would like to play with some more.  Wolverine is just fun to slash around with, but I’d hoped his standard attack button moves were a bit …. slashier?  I guess I just expected more from a guy who’s the best at what he does.

Amaterasu from Okami is a fun and quirky niche character.  She’s a bit difficult to use, but has some decent special attacks.

Storm is great in a pinch, but her special attacks are very reliant on her opponent’s position on the screen.  She’s hard to use but her attacks pack a punch.

The Hulk is by far the heaviest hitter in the game, but his range sucks.  He’s got some ranged attacks, but they seem much easier for the computer opponents to avoid.  Fighting against him, I seem to be too slow to evade, even when he telegraphs the move ahead of time.  Maybe I’m just rusty.

I’d really like to play through with Captain America and Thor.  Not sure if it’s just the movie hype or not, but I’ll write up a review later this month.

Super Bowl Spots I’m Looking Forward to Seeing

With the Patriots surprise loss last Sunday knocking them out of the Playoffs this year and two of my least favorite teams still in the running, I’ll watch the Super Bowl but I refuse to enjoy it.  Rex Ryan’s shady coaching of last week’s game paired with his acid-tongued attention-grabbing media blitzes have me watching today’s game hoping Pittsburgh beats the Jets today, taking them out of the picture.  And there’s my other least-favorite team, Pittsburgh.  That has little to do with the actual team (although Roethlisberger is a dirtbag) and more to do with a certain ex-boss whom we all hated and his super-fan status with the Steelers.  Scylla meets Charybdis on the field today at 3:30.

So I’m looking forward to two things at the end of this season, the Pro Bowl (with it’s plethora of my favorite Patriots who wouldn’t be playing if they had won last week) and the Super Bowl’s commercials.  Even before I became a fan of the game a few years back, I always tuned in to see some of the best commercials to hit the small screen every year.  Among them this year are a few movie trailers we’ve all been waiting to see for quite some time now.

Captain America:  The First Avenger:  Come on, I just want to see SOMETHING from this movie, and it looks like we’ll get our chance next weekend.  The few leaked photos we have seen just aren’t cutting it anymore boys.  We need a trailer now.

Thor:  The other movie that will be making 2011 a banner year for me.  Here’s the link to the trailer I found on Youtube a month or so back http://derosbybrothers.com/2010/11/20/new-thor-trailer/.  So far everything I’ve seen has been amazing.   Here’s hoping Marvel doesn’t let us down this year.

Cowboys & Aliens:  I saw the first trailer for this one a few months back, thanks to Dan http://itsadansworld.blogspot.com/search?q=cowboys+%26+aliens.  I’m really looking forward to this one too.  Jon Favreau hasn’t let us down yet.  Throw in Harrison Ford (the Real Indiana Jones…hear that Shia?) and Daniel Craig (hands down the best 007 in my opinion) and this could be the sleeper hit of the year.

Priest:  I really liked what I saw in the trailer I posted last week http://derosbybrothers.com/2011/01/14/trailer-for-priest/ and I’m hoping this one lives up to the trailer.  I’m getting tired of being let down by horror movies lately.

Kung Fu Panda 2:  My kids are really looking forward to this one, and I have to admit, the original is one of my favorite Dreamworks animated movies.  Jack Black never fails to deliver and the rest of the original voice cast returns to make this a family movie must-see.  As you may know, all three of my kids are enrolled in karate and the two older ones compete on the Huards Sport Karate team.  Their sensei was talking about going to this movie as a group.  I’m all for it (any excuse to go to the movies I guess).

Transformers:  Dark of the Moon:  I enjoyed the first of Michael Bay’s installments in this movie series, but the second film really turned me off to this director’s vision of my favorite franchise ever.  I’m not saying I won’t go and see this in the theater because I can’t help myself when it comes to Transformers.  I’m just going in expecting the worst and hoping for a miracle.  The teaser trailer released a few months ago did show some promise, http://derosbybrothers.com/2010/12/08/transformers-dark-of-the-moon-trailer/, but so did the first sneak peeks of Devastator last time around.  Keep your fingers crossed on this one kids.

Pirates of the Caribbean:  On Stranger Tides:  My wife Jenn is a fan of both Johnny Depp (don’t want to talk about it) and this series of films.  I’ll probably end up going to this one.

Battle:  Los Angeles:  Kind of indifferent about this one.  I’ve seen the trailer and it looks okay, but I don’t think I’ll be rushing out to the theater to see it.  Hello Redbox.

Super 8:  From J.J. Abrams, the man who brought us Lost, Cloverfield, the Star Trek reboot, and Fringe (my favorite show on TV) comes yet another one of his top secret film projects.  I’m sure the hype surrounding the top-secret nature of this movie will far exceed the actual film itself (Cloverfield anyone) but he rarely lets us down, so I’m willing to give him a chance.

Limitless:  I hadn’t heard about this one until I read the article about these movies (thanks to MovieViral.com for the article), but the trailer looks pretty good.  Definitely a rental, maybe a date night movie if the reviews are promising.

Nothing like a few great commercials and some long-awaited movie trailers to keep your mind off the fact that Tom Brady isn’t marching our New England Patriots down the field to victory on Super Bowl Sunday.

What movies are you looking forward to this year?  Any trailers or commercials you’re looking forward to seeing on February 6th?

New THOR Trailer

I just found the new THOR movie trailer online and after watching it, I am really looking forward to this one now.   Starring Chris Helmsworth as the God of Thunder, Anthony Hopkins as his father Odin, and Natalie Portman, this film is slated for a May 2011 release.
